OneDrive: Microsoft's cloud storage solution
OneDrive is a cloud storage solution offered by Microsoft. Providing free and paid-for subscription storage, the tool enables businesses and individuals to securely back up their files and personal data on the Cloud.
How does OneDrive work?
OneDrive is a free internet-based storage platform for anyone with a Microsoft account. Simply put, OneDrive is like your hard drive that contains documents but is located on the Cloud, which you can access from anywhere.
If you have anOffice 365 licence and a Windows 10 operating system, OneDrive is already preinstalled on your PC. You will, however, need an internet connection and a Microsoft account to store your files on OneDrive.
Free OneDrive version
The free version of the storage space is available on the Microsoft OneDrive website. It can be used on a single computer by a single user. This offer provides less storage capacity than paid-for subscriptions, but still allows you to store up to 5 GB of files.
Simplified backup with OneDrive
One of the main problems without cloud storage is that we often have to send ourselves files to access them on another computer or device. Managing versions and collaborating on the same document quickly becomes complicated. With Microsoft OneDrive storage, you can say goodbye to this old method.
You work on your Word, Excel or PowerPoint file from your Office 365 Suite and instantly save it on your OneDrive storage space. When you get home – or anywhere else – your file is in your account, which you can access from any device with an internet connection.
OneDrive for Business for file sharing
For businesses, a paid subscription to OneDrive is often necessary. Microsoft offers several plans, some of which store up to 1 TB of files per user. Among other things, the storage tool is included in the combined Office 365/OneDrive subscription.
OneDrive's free plan doesn't allow users to share files. If you need to pool data for a collaborative project, you will need to opt for one of the OneDrive for Business solutions. You will be able to manage access to files to enable you and your colleagues to work on them at the same time.
